Alumni Stories

JMTP’s impact extends beyond our programs, helping young athletes build skills, confidence, and opportunities that shape their futures. Meet a few of our alumni whose journeys bring that impact to life.

  • Dylan Ortiz: From the Community Program to College Tennis

A Bronx native, Dylan first picked up a racquet in second grade through JMTP’s partnership with his school. He progressed from the Community Program to the Excellence Program and earned a full scholarship to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy. In 2026, he became the first JMTP athlete to complete the full Tennis Pathway to Success®, earning a scholarship to Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where he continues his academic and athletic journey as a member of the men's tennis team.

  • Lara Afolayanka: From JMTP Scholarship Player to NCAA National Champion

After seven years with JMTP, Lara made an immediate impact on the Wesleyan University women's tennis team, helping lead the Cardinals the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis National Championship. The former JMTP Scholarship Player finished the year with an impressive 17-6 singles record and earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American honors and All-NESCAC recognition, establishing herself among the nation's top Division III players.

  • Sebastian Sec: Ivy League Standout and UNC Tar Heel

A 2022 JMTP graduate, Sebastian built a distinguished career at Princeton University, serving as team captain, and earning ITA Scholar-Athlete and All-Ivy League honors. He led the team in singles and doubles wins as a freshman. Now pursuing a Master of Science in Statistics and Operations Research at the University of North Carolina, while representing the Tarheels on court, Sebastian continues to pursue excellence both on and off the court.
