Children aged 6 to 14 from all across NYC came together at the Frederick Johnson Playground in Harlem this summer to pursue their dreams of tennis greatness! Young athletes-in-training showed off their skills for brothers Patrick and John McEnroe for a chance to join the John McEnroe Tennis Academy at Sportime Randall’s Island.
Since 2012, Sportime has awarded more than 256 scholarships to students to participate in Sportime and John McEnroe Tennis Academy programs. These merit-based scholarships underwrite group and individual tennis and athletic instruction by world-class JMTA coaches, and pay for equipment, transportation and, in some cases, tournament travel. While scholarship students hail from across the city, a growing number reside in the communities that neighbor Randall’s Island. For example, in 2017, Sportime awarded 51 scholarships citywide and, of these, 26 of the scholarship students lived and/or attended school in East Harlem or the South Bronx.
